So as the title suggests, there’s been massive crypto adoption in Lebanon after our currency has lost roughly 90% of its value. I’d like to just list a few instances where crypto has helped people navigate the ongoing financial crisis. First of all, 50$ is equivalent to about 1.5 million Lebanese Lira (which btw used to be equivalent to 1000$). The minimum wage in Lebanon has lagged behind and remains just about the same – this leaves the majority of the middle/lower class earning a mere 50$ PER MONTH. This has caused the crypto sphere in Lebanon to flourish with people moving their assets out of banks (which are near bankruptcy) and into stablecoins. Gaming cafes have even converted their setups into mining rigs. Multiple cell phone shops in Beirut have begun to accept USDT and you can even buy gold from local jewelers using crypto. Even in my own case, I’ve been able to generate much more than the minimum wage here in Lebanon just through interacting with the community and earning moons (I’m averaging about 500 moons per distribution). This has brought financial freedom to a people who cannot trust in their own banking system which turned out to be one large Ponzi scheme led-on by the political elite in the country. Depositers can no longer withdraw any money from their accounts since the politicians have basically funnelled billions of dollars out of the country. (Basically rugpulled their own people). I notice that a huge majority of commenters also come from backgrounds such as my own, let me know how crypto adoption has been affecting your own day-day life below!
