When I first came here it was more like carnival. So many posts, so many peoples actively engaging.
Now I rarely see any notification. And when I do it is about how messed up this sub is. And I think I know why! Well, aside from a long winter and fizzled out hype around crypto….
I want to apologize in advance. I hope this post does not count as low effort or meta. I just think this is needed to be seen by more people.
The curse of the moon:
I am sure the people who first introduced the idea of rewarding moon for engaging in this sub didn’t knew it is gonna affect the general atmosphere of the sub. People learned how to maximize their moon gain. And how to neutralize the possible competition. Thing is there are few general rules in reddit. First few likes can mean a lot, as people have a hive mind behavior. So bots and gang play came into existence. And joking or making fun of something or someone usually gets much better feedback. So basically people here learned to be hyperactive jerks.
Shitty reddit algorithm:
Who thought posts getting half the karma compared to a one line comment was a good idea? And worst giving posts karma cap? We have people writing ten page of top notch analysis for what? To gain half a karma someone would get for “no one knows shit about fuck.” And here people are nagging about why quality of posts are going to hell.
The next problem is visibility. Reddit rewards you for being the first. So, many people just don’t bother reading. Why bother? They can post ten more shitty comments in that time.
Gatekeeping:
How many times you post something only to be labeled as moonfarmer? How many people called you shiller? Idiot? Uninformed? And those same people who call you names have like fifty thousand moons next to their name. And those same people never wrote a single decent post.
And don’t get me started about unclear moderation rules. One day you are getting hit by rule 5 for a decent post. Next day top three posts are all crap and no one cares. I know it is the main reason I don’t write here that much anymore.
I don’t know what should be done about those issues. I have few suggestions. Like limiting the number of comments a user can post per day. But that’s for another sub, and another day.
For now, I hope you guys learn to “like” others when you can. It costs you nothing. And believe me it will encourage people to be more active and nicer to others.
Have a great night or day wherever you are.
Godspeed
