I started my crypto journey back in 2017, when you could only buy 3 coins on Coinbase, and back before so much of what crypto is today even existed. Over that time, I’ve experienced a ton of short-term regret. Missing out on the “ETH Killer” like EOS and NEO, missing out on NFTs, or on layer 2s or AI coins. The FOMO I felt during the yield chasing days knowing I could making insane returns on my coins that were just sitting there was crazy. Now recently it’s meme coins that made some people rich.
Looking back, every-one of those short-term regrets fizzled out as the hype died down behind the projects. Though I could have made some money, I would have had to time the tops and that’s just not my forte. I watched as countless people lost everything chasing the next big thing, while so many were focusing far too much on the few who succeeded.
Yet through every cycle, I experience consistent regret over not having bought more BTC when it was at $3k, or ETH when it was $80 and I wasn’t going all in. Then this year, I have regret over not buying at $16k BTC, and $900 ETH around New Years. At every single stage of my crypto journey, I have wanted more BTC and ETH, and the side pieces can never keep my attention. Since it’s been my biggest regret consistently, I expect it to continue into the future and therefore 95%+ of my new investments are into those two coins.
