When life gives you lemons… use them to mine bitcoin!
I recently came across lemon batteries, so in the spirit of being silly – lets see how many lemon batteries we would need for us to mine some bitcoin.
So, a lemon battery can produce around 1 volt and 0.00024 amps.
And lets say that the current network hash rate for Bitcoin mining is 400 EH/s, with the energy consumption for Bitcoin between 100-150 TWhs.
To get 1 watt – we need 1 volt at 1 amp, and to get 1 terahash per second, we’ll need 1 trillion watts.
So to power 400 EH/s:
400 EH/s * 1 trillion = 400 quintillion watts.
So here’s the silly part – lets see how many lemon batteries we’d need:
400 quintillion watts / (0.00024A * 1V) = 1.67 quintillion lemon batteries, which would be 3.34 quintillion lemons.
That’s 3,340,000,000,000,000,000 lemons if we use two lemons per battery.
The world produces around 18 million metric tonnes of lemons per year – which is approximately 150 billion lemons.
It would take us 22,266,666.67 years to produce 3.34 quintillion lemons to generate enough power to mine bitcoin.
Maybe not, then.
