Lost bitcoin

My partner in 2013 was given 8 bitcoin for a lacrosse stick…she doesn’t remember which platform that bitcoin was given to her on, or what her password and username would be for said platform. Is that bitcoin just gone? Is there anyway to trace the transaction?
