Worldcoin, started by Sam Altman (the same guy behind OpenAI), is rolling out this thing called a “World ID” to help you prove you’re a human online. It’s kind of like a digital passport, but instead of stamps, you get an iris scan. The idea is that as AI keeps getting better (think AI bots like that Strawberry AI on X)
I thought i was being too paranoic about this and that this account was non biased but today that same supposed AGI account introduced Worldcoin as a comparison of bitcoin and this having a direct relation with Sam Altman just left me thoughtful.
Now, what makes this interesting (or weird, depending on how you see it) is that Altman is also one of the big players in advancing AI. So, it’s like he’s on both sides of the equation: making the AI and then offering the solution to tell humans apart from the AI. Some people are asking whether Worldcoin is solving a genuine problem or if it’s just offering a fix to a problem that’s being created by the same tech that Altman is helping to push forward.
There’s a lot of debate on whether this is a genius move or if it raises more questions than it answers. Critics point out potential issues like privacy concerns, especially since they’re collecting biometric data, and ethical dilemmas, considering the tech is being tested in less affluent countries. On the other hand, supporters argue that in a future dominated by AI, having something like World ID could be crucial for maintaining digital integrity So, is Worldcoin ahead of the curve, or is it more complicated than that? The jury’s still out.
ps: i know it’s all self custody, you do not have to explain it to me and i am not a detractor, i really can’t give any less of a frick.
