Why are there so many posts with hundreds of positive comments and like 10 upvotes?

I see so many great posts in this sub that have hundreds of engaging comments and like 10 or 20 upvotes?

There must be an army of downvoting bots but what do they gain? I would understand if they upvotes their own comments but downvoting?
