A love letter to Reddit – Avatar Colllectibles

Dear Reddit,

As someone who came into crypto around october 2018, I’ve experienced a lot of things in this crazy space. From the first bull run and subsequent crash, to the many scams, rug pulls and ways to lose money. I’ve found out a lot of things about myself, about greed, about human nature, and it’s been interesting to say the least.

On Reddit, I’ve found a space where I can enjoy spending time with likeminded (or not!) people. People who are just as excited about the stuff that I like. Not just crypto, but films, series, fitness, Magic the Gathering and whatever else I’m into.

With the launch of these avatars, you have given me something amazing to love this platform even more. You’ve managed to not just make this a seamless experience, where NFT’s truly just function like digital collectibles, instead of going the Metamask and Opensea route. People who have never touched crypto or NFT’s all of a sudden received a small gift they could rock as an avatar.

And then the Artist Avatars dropped. I’ll be the first to say, I didn’t care too much. They flew under the radar and I was already content with my free one, so I never really took the time to look. Until Cones started showing up in CC and I realised, I am missing something here.

In too deep

A whirlwind of information later, I bought my first avatars, both in the shop and on Opensea. And I was hooked. From the amazing artwork, to the relative stealthy launch, the incredibly easy one click shop experience, everything just felt good. The artwork was amazing, distinct and unique to the artists style. And the extreme addictiveness that playing around with mix and match combo’s, was something I did not expect. Currently I’m changing my avatar pretty much everyday, or multiple times I day. For an old dude like me, this feels like playing with Lego’s all over again. And the collectibility made me reminesce of early days Magic, where it wasn’t just about gaining profits, but creating a damn good product.

It just works

Reddit, everything you did here just worked. You’ve managed to not only onboard god knows how many people onto this space, but you made it *actually* enjoyable to be here. Props to you for giving the artists (you guys are amazing!) not just all the money and half of the resale royalties, but the space to allow them to build a platform for themselves. You are elevating them, the same way you have elevated what NFT’s should be for me. I love seeing artists proliferate all over social media, having great talks, doing collabs and whatnot. All while making a nice well deserved stack of cash doing so.

As far as I’m concerned, the secondary market goes, deservedly, crazy over these. They are historical pieces in terms of the crypto and NFT space, being part of *the most successful* grand scale launch and onboarding. Yes, there is a lot of hype right now and prices will ebb and flow but that doesn’t matter.

Amazing work

To the team that came up with this, I salute and applaud you. I hope you have earned a big stack of bonuses and acclaim as it’s well and rightfully deserved. Honestly, I’m looking forward to an AMA or whatever platform you guys might want to use. This has been exemplary. Again, historical.

What you’ve done for me, Reddit, is make yourself as a platform even more fun. Even more personal. Heck, even more lucractive. And most importantly, even more loved.
