I went into this movie not sure what to expect-I was excited by Dune, I love a good sci-fi movie, so I wanted to like this movie before it came out. I walked out like one of those memes. The majesty of the movie, the scale, the flow was incredible. I think the cinema had a lot to do with it-it wasn’t Imax, but it was something more immersive than my normal theater (I went to a “Showcase” cinemas, BTW). In any case, it was stunning, and even if you don’t like sci-fi, I recommend that you see it like that because it literally had me feeling like I was swept up in that majesty like I haven’t felt in probably a long time. I don’t know if it’s that we’ve gotten used to things, tv/internet have made our lives a bit easier, etc, but the movie was an experience and it just felt really good to have one of those again.

It reminded me of being a little kid and getting excited about the characters once more. It didn’t have the same level of commercialism that we’ve been sold-an action figure for every scene or those aspects, but the story still worked and gave a strong feeling of thought. What did I think about this character, that character, that scene? It made sense, and it made sense for those situations too, in a way that felt familiar but new in a movie again. I can typically spot a lot of things before they happen, and I did here, but they presented it so well that it was exactly the reason why. You ever identify with a villain in what they do? This could probably make you in a scene or two.

Anyway, enough blathering about it. It’s probably the best movie of the year, so go see it, and see it in a theater that has excellent quality because it’s an experience to behold.
