I don’t like reading manuals, mainly because I like exploring things for myself. Then, after I screw some things up, I like looking things up and fixing them. It’s “learning on the fly”.
And sometimes, when you do that, you miss out on some big things. Like the MTR mode on my Zoom H4N. If you don’t know, it’s a 4-track recorder. I’ve used the Zoom H1s for years now, they have great sound quality for small portable recorders, and it’s impressive. Plus, since they’re relatively small, you can stick them almost anywhere. The H4, is a bigger brother, with XLR inputs and can do 4 tracks. It can also do something awesome called MTR mode, which allows you to record 4 tracks for a band. Instead of 4 tracks live, this does 4 tracks, one by one, like a typical band setup. But you can add amp models, vocal models, and all sorts of super fun stuff.
And I’ve been searching for just that, while I’m away from my main studio. I’ve been using my iphone, and amplitude and some other modelers like bias. But they don’t have the same feel, and the zoom fits the bill. Plus, you can use it as a usb audio input. Kudos to Zoom for making an awesome product.
And sometimes, read the manual, because it helps…
