More Acronyms!

There are plenty of acronyms to love and built a foundation on. Marketing is full of them-the military loves them as well, even if they don’t make sense. I’ve found a few statements that DO make sense, however and there’s a few that stand out in my mind prominently.

Power = Speed +Technique.

The first is Power follows Speed follows Technique. This was actually told to me by Stonehorse, a famous kickboxer and trainer during one of his camps. I thought about it, and while I never put words to it, it’s a great metaphor on how to work out. First, get your technique down, then do it with speed, and the power of the move will follow. You have to follow the steps, and you can see the people that practice that when they’re able to execute those moves with the grace that they do.

Luck = preparation + opportunity.

Another one that sticks with me is luck. This one is tricky because it involves and element that’s beyond your control. Most people who are involved with sporting realize that the amount of hard work and preparation that they put into the sport are typically the motivating factors of success. This also applies to job as well. And within those confines they say, “luck doesn’t matter”/”I make my own luck”. I believe that luck IS an essential part of our life, but for different factors.

Luck itself is a variable that you account for as a human. There are certain things that just “happen”. But also, they can happen the way that you want them, or can be overcome by sheer repetition. There’s always going to be a one shot-that’s the unpredictability of life, but there are plenty of opportunities that make the difference in that instance.

Preparation = Positive Attitude + Practice.

If you practice, and you bring that energy to that practice, you’re keeping it with the practice the whole way. Practice how you perform, is another way to say it, and that can make all the difference in how you attack something-when you DO have that opportunity to attack it. Which means, if you continue to practice hard, bring the attitude to what you do, when you DO get the opportunity, you’ll be able to overcome the bad luck and by repetition-accomplish your goals.

By this metric, it’s not hard to see how someone can eventually be successful in accomplishing their goals when they work hard at them, continue to advance for their goals and eventually get the right opportunity to showcase themselves to become successful.
