I was asked this by a potential client the other day. I wasn’t really sure it was a word, but I guess the point was, do we handle the full process of creation?
And that answer is a loud YES! Today’s videographers deal with a lot more responsibility and creation than previous generations. With the ability to shoot and edit, especially with smaller equipment, faster equipment, the ability to get ideas out rapidly is amazing. You can have a 4k drone in the air within seconds, to film a wedding, editing it on location, shoot waaaayyy more than you need to for b-roll and create a dozen different edits and products from that one shot alone. That is, of course, dependent on how much you know.
Our experience in all these areas makes us unique, I’d like to think, in the fact that we’ve done a lot of these productions, and have been involved in these specific situations more than once. And not only can we meet those terms, we can create a lot of the “ideation” process on the spot, changing the way that the production looks on the fly, if we find a better direction that it needs to go.
And the future looks bright and more exciting. I’ve been using the DJI Osmo Pocket a lot more lately, and boy is it a capable little camera. With direct sunlight, this thing can account for 50 percent of my shooting, the size of a small candy bar. I’ll use bigger cameras for other shots, but for a steady-cam type feel and 4k output, it’s great to carry in the pocket literally.
