More Acronyms!
I’ve heard of SWOT, the 4 Ps, but today I heard another one called SMART. Boy, we love making things with acronyms (see the military and government). Anyway, the SMART acronym stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Realistic, and finally Timely. I guess you could apply that to many different facets, but this was to marketing goals and campaigns. I would say that this is what organization gets you for your business-the heart of everything is organizing it into easy bite size pieces, but this is a good way to realize some of those things that you need to do. Creating a goal with these objectives in mind is a good way to stick to them and actually accomplish them. If you need to break it down into smaller pieces, then that’s ok as long as you get it done.
So many people in my experience try to bite off a bigger piece than they can chew, and this creates the disarray, as they leave the project or goal after it becomes too difficult, or unwieldy. Create that campaign, or even just a daily goal list with these objectives in mind allows you to feel like you get something done, and success begets more success. It’s actually part of another disfunction. You get excited about a project, start it, but quickly lose the effort when it gets hard. At that point, it becomes another thing to throw on the pile. When you get too many piles around the house, you become a hoarder. So focus on the goals and create that smart plan that works for you. Remember-Keep It Super Simple and that means it will be accomplishable-the realistic part of the goal, and you will be able to cross it off your list and get it done. If I were to think of things like that-I think I like this acronym better than most.
